Use these five St. Patrick's Day-themed ideas to get students creating and learning in your classroom.

Write festive poetry

St. Patrick's Day is the perfect occasion for honing rhyme and meter skills by reading and writing limericks. To help students create their own festive poetry, assign the Limerick template to provide guidance and structure for their work.

Students can also get started with a blank page and add fun backgrounds that include such as, like rainbows and meadows. They can add festive stickers from the Image library to help illustrate their work of art. There is even has an image folder specifically for St. Patrick's Day.

Use leprechauns to explore luck and gratitude

Explore the world of Leprechauns and have students imagine what brings luck to these mischievous creatures. Maybe it is finding a pot of gold at the end of a rainbow.

Have students use the Lucky to be Me activity to share ways they feel lucky. Students can use the drawing tools to illustrate their own lucky moment and use the text tools to include a descriptive sentence.

Craft St. Patrick's Day Comics

After learning about fascinating St. Patrick’s Day traditions, challenge students to craft a comic to inform others of their newfound knowledge. Comics are a great way to support student learning, as the small amount of space on the page requires students to think critically about the content.

Students can get started with the St. Patrick's Day comic panel template.

If students start their comic from a blank page and would like to print out their work, have students go to the Print option and select print as Comic Book.

Ask students to share their comics with their peers. This is a great way to encourage students to show off their hard work and inform others about St. Patrick’s Day traditions.

Interview a Leprechaun

Encourage students to demonstrate their creativity, imagination, and language skills by crafting an interview based on the prompt, "What do you think leprechauns talk about?"

Students can use an organizer to brainstorm questions to ask the leprechaun, like:

  • Is there a pot of gold at the end of the rainbow?
  • What is your favorite St. Patrick’s Day tradition?
  • Do you have special abilities?

Then, assign the Interview a Leprechaun activity. Students can use the talkies to make their interview come to life!

Leprechaun traps

Students can use the How to Catch a Leprechaun template to write the steps they think it will take to catch one. Be sure students consider things like the leprechaun’s size, special abilities, and resourcefulness.

Then, have students use the authoring tools to design and engineer a trap.

Have students present their ideas for the leprechaun trap to the class and explain their reasoning and design choices. Students can then discuss their work and vote on which trap they think would most likely be lucky.

These ideas are just the beginning!
