Bookmark Bonanza

Creating bookmarks is fun for students and can be a powerful performance task for comprehension and retelling.

Students can create various types of bookmarks, from book reviews aimed at helping others choose books they'll enjoy to bookmarks featuring informational or argumentative text celebrating lesser-known figures in history.

Students can even design bookmarks incorporating sight words to reinforce literacy skills while promoting a love for reading.

To get started, assign the bookmark template to help direct student work.

Have students use the Text tool on the toolbar to add text. Students drag the box on the page to where they want text and then begin typing.

Then, have students use the paint tools to create original illustrations for their bookmarks.

Publishing and sharing

It is essential to publish and distribute student work. It motivates students and sends a clear message that their work is valuable.

Instruct students to go to the File menu and choose Print, or you can use the Project Wizard to print all of the projects at one time.

Once the pages are printed, students can cut out the two halves of the bookmark and glue them together.

Trade the bookmarks in your classroom or place them in your school or community library to share your love of reading.
