Amazing Animal Alliterations
Alliteration is a powerful way to attract and entertain a reader. Use this fun approach to have students share their love for animals.
Engage
Introduce your students to alliteration with a fun story like Marti and the Mango by Daniel Moreton. You can also kick off with fun nursery rhymes or tongue twisters like "Peter Piper picked a peck of pickled peppers" or "She sells sea shells by the sea shore."
Work as a class to write an alliterative sentence. Choose a letter and brainstorm a list of animals that begin with this letter. Then brainstorm other objects and action words that start with this letter.
Write a first sentence using a noun-verb-noun format, such as "Birds build bubbles." Then, add in an adjective for a finished product like, "Black birds build big bubbles."
Create
Give each student a letter and have them brainstorm a list of animals that begin with this letter. Then, have them extend the list with other words (verbs, nouns, and adjectives). Use the noun-verb-noun model to start sentences and then have students add in other words.
Assign the Sentence Strip template and have students begin by typing their alliterative sentence.
Students can then use the paint tools to create an illustration that supports their writing.
Share
Export as a PDF or print each student's page using the Project Wizard to create a printed version for your classroom or school library. Then, visit another class and have students read your Amazing Animal Alliterations book!
